Planning Final Piece
For my final piece, I plan on creating a suspended installation made up of one board and either 4 or 6 circular metal plates, which will be suspended either side of the main board. To stick with the concept of my personal investigation I plan to incorporate the chemical symbols into the pieces. I'll have drug symbols on the circular plates around the main board which will contain the dopamine symbol. This layout will symbolize the brain and it is surrounded by drugs.
When considering the composition of my final I had 3 main ideas;
The rust tones in the piece across will be used to symbolize a depressant drug, as the colours are dark and earthy. The larger cells give the impression of slower movement, which is associated with depressant drugs, such as alcohol, THC, and nicotine.

Across is a piece which is using brighter colours, which could be related to more stimulant drugs. The smaller cells and more sharp defined marks and lines represent the faster, more agile movements. These more defined marks represent drugs like meth, cocaine, LSD, and caffeine.
This piece has a lighter more airy tones and has a contrast between the size of cells in this piece. It could be representative of drugs like marijuana or nicotine, which is typically smoked. The thinner, more whispy lines created by the light grey which highlights the cells gives the impression of smoke, against a landscape, or smoking outside.

This piece has darker more raw and clashing tones that don't complement each other. There's a great contrast between the shiny metal and the thick dark paint which in patches looks like tar. The metal gives the impression of needles or spoons which are typically related to heroin. I find this piece in particular not very pleasing to look at as the colours aren't vibrant and don't complement each other.

This piece I made when thinking about smoking. I feel the grey tones represent the ash, from burning. The orange tones give a hint of warmth to the piece and symbolize the glowing which comes across with cigarettes. The hints of brown match the colour of tobacco and give it a more earthy feel.
This next piece I feel embodies the psychedelic drugs and the bright vibrant colours of tie-dye. I feel this piece is more vibrant in real life, and the colours stand out against the other pieces in this collection. The blend of primary colours makes this piece stand out because the other pieces have more natural and organic colour palettes. This plate I plan to use to represent LSD, a psychedelic drug.

This piece I plan to use to represent caffeine, as its a more common drug, not one which people consider addictive but its a drug used by millions worldwide, and seems to be more addictive than people think. These warm toned colours bring warmth and a calm energy which I feel is the effect coffee gives people, and bubbles of the metal coming through also symbolize coffee and it is mixed in a mug.
I plan to hang them from chains or wire but I'll begin some experiments once I've chosen the space I plan to present my work.
When considering the composition of my final I had 3 main ideas;
They all are rather similar but there are small differences in the layout of the circular metal plates. The first two ideas are similar in the sense the plates are hung in a linear fashion, however, the third differs as the plates are hung more randomly. I plan to have the work against a wall, but due to the nature of the plates they might spin around, so I plan to experiment with hanging them using different materials and seeing how they react.
I plan on using the rust toned colours I used in my previous pour on the center larger piece as it will have the dopamine symbol incorporated into it. I want this to be a symbol for the mind and body of someone whos addicted to drugs and their health is deteriorating, hence the rust colours.
I will do another large scale pour as I feel theres too much of a contrast between the large pour and the small metal plates.
The surrounded suspended metal plates will contain some of the developments I have done throughout my journey through my personal investigation, using colours which I feel represent the drug, or which marks will complement the chemical symbols themselves.
